An erosive process that creates rain crevices. Rainfall and melting snow run off the surface of sloping soil with little vegetation, and the rainwater and melting snow collect in small depressions, forming deep, narrow channels. This is one type of soil erosion that erodes cultivated land and causes damage. It often develops in areas such as slopes covered with volcanic ash and glacial clay deposits from glacial deposits. Countless rain crevices have developed on the slopes of South Dakota in the United States and in the glacial clay deposits south of La Paz in Bolivia, creating badlands. It is also called rain valley erosion. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
