Gully erosion

Japanese: 雨裂浸食 - うれつしんしょく（英語表記）gully erosion

An erosive process that creates rain crevices. Rainfall and melting snow run off the surface of sloping soil with little vegetation, and the rainwater and melting snow collect in small depressions, forming deep, narrow channels. This is one type of soil erosion that erodes cultivated land and causes damage. It often develops in areas such as slopes covered with volcanic ash and glacial clay deposits from glacial deposits. Countless rain crevices have developed on the slopes of South Dakota in the United States and in the glacial clay deposits south of La Paz in Bolivia, creating badlands. It is also called rain valley erosion.

雨裂をつくるような浸食作用。降雨や融雪水が植生の少い傾斜した土壌の表面を流れ，わずかの凹所に雨水や融雪水が集中して，細長い深い溝を形成する。土壌浸食の一つの作用で，耕地を浸食して被害を与える。火山灰におおわれた斜面や氷河堆積物の氷礫粘土などの地域によく発達する。アメリカのサウスダコタ州の傾斜地やボリビアのラパス南方の氷礫粘土の堆積物中に無数の雨裂が発達し，悪地を形成している。雨谷浸食ともいう。
