Uriel Acosta

Japanese: 《ウーリエル・アコスタ》 - うーりえるあこすた
Uriel Acosta

...He challenged religious taboos with his novella Walie the Doubter (1835) (later imprisoned for four months for this), and on the other hand, together with Wienbalck, he planned the notable literary magazine Deutsche Review, but their movement was destroyed by the total ban on the Young Germans by the German Bundestag (December 1835). Even after the March Revolution, Gutzkow remained in a left-wing petit-bourgeois position, although he was shaken, and wrote masterpieces such as the tragedy Ouriel Acosta (1847) and the comedy Prototype of Tartuffe (1844), which dealt with the issues of intellectuals and humanism. He was also a prolific writer of novels, and especially following the example of the French writer Eugène Sueux, he pioneered the simultaneous novel style (Knights of the Spirit, 1850-51; The Magician of Rome, 1858-61), but perhaps because of his vast length and bland style, his works are little read today.
