〘Noun〙① A metal vessel used in ancient China to boil food and drink. It has two ears and three legs. In the old days, it was earthenware and was used only for boiling food and drink, but later it was used for rituals. In particular, after King Yu of the Xia Dynasty made the Nine Triple by collecting copper from nine countries, it came to represent the throne and the imperial throne. As a ritual vessel, it is often called "Kanae". ※Shin-Urashima (1895)〈Koda Rohan〉11 "What kind of tripod is it anyway? What temperature should the fire temperature be in Celsius? Are external alchemists really made to imitate chemicals using powder, sand, mercury, etc.?"② One of the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching. . The upper hexagram is Li (fire) and the lower hexagram is Xun (wind, wood). It is also called the Fire and Wind Triple. The yin of the first line represents the foot, the yang of the second to fourth lines represents the stomach, the yin of the fifth line represents the ear, and the yang of the top line represents a crane.The entire hexagram forms the shape of a tripod , representing innovation.

〘名〙① 古代中国で、飲食物を煮るのに用いた金属製の容器。二つの耳と三本の足をもつ。古くは土器であり、飲食物を煮るだけに用いたが、のち、祭祀用になった。特に、夏の禹王(うおう)が九か国の銅を集めて九鼎を作ってから、王位、帝位を表わすようになった。祭器としては「かなえ」と呼ぶことが多い。※新浦島（1895）〈幸田露伴〉一一「鼎(テイ)はそもそもどんなもの火候は摂氏の何度たるべき、外丹は真に磠砂水銀など用ゐて化学臭い真似して作るか」② 易の六十四卦の一つ。。上卦は離（火）、下卦は巽（風・木）。火風鼎ともいう。初爻(こう)の陰は足の象、二より四までの陽は腹の象、五爻の陰は耳の象、上爻の陽はつるの象で、全卦で鼎(かなえ)の形を示し、革新のさまを表わす。
