The protagonist of Futabatei Shimei's novel "Ukigumo."
He lost his samurai father at an early age, lived in his uncle's house, graduated from school with excellent grades, and became a civil servant. He fell in love with his uncle's daughter Osae, but lost his job due to personnel cuts due to his shyness and poor speaking skills. Osae also left him, and he suffered alone. "Ukigumo" is an unfinished novel, but it is known as the first realistic novel written in the colloquial style.
