Tetron

Japanese: Tetron
Tetron

...General term for artificially made fibers as opposed to natural fibers. Also called chemical fibers for short. Also called man-made fibers, this term is used in the narrow sense to refer to artificial fibers excluding synthetic fibers. Chemical fibers are classified into synthetic fibers, semi-synthetic fibers, regenerated fibers, and inorganic fibers. The table below shows the classification of chemical fibers.
【history】
The idea of making fibers artificially has been around for a long time, but it wasn't put into practice until the 19th century. Efforts began to make a high-quality, silk-like synthetic fiber (called artificial silk, or rayon for short) from cheap natural cellulose fibers such as cotton.

[Polyethylene terephthalate]

…It was first industrialized as a fiber by ICI in the UK and DuPont in the US under the trade names Terylene and Dacron, respectively. In Japan, it is known as Tetron (a trade name of Teijin and Toray). It was developed primarily as a fiber and has been used widely, but recently its uses have expanded to include audio and video films, capacitor films, films for flexible printed wiring bases, bottles for beer and carbonated drinks, electrical components, automobile parts, and other molded products. …
