...The base is soft paste porcelain made from soap rock, which is abundant in Cornwall. The early decorative style was known as "Worcester Japan", which freely imitated Japanese Kakiemonte and Imari porcelain, but after 1760, elegant rococo figures and pastoral scenes influenced by Sèvres and Meissen became prominent, and from the end of that century to the beginning of the 19th century, neo-classical figurines and neat porcelain with partial gold borders were produced in large quantities, reflecting the tastes of the time. In 1757, Robert Hancock also adopted copperplate transfer printing for painting here, and made early efforts to mass-produce porcelain. ...
