[Hakodate]
In ancient Ainu language, it was called "Usukeshi (edge ​​of the inlet)" or "Ushorokeshi (edge ​​of the bay)" and was written as Usugishi or Usugi. It is said that the mansion built by Kono Masamichi in the middle of the 15th century was called Hakodate because its shape resembled a box.
