Photographic film used to reduce and preserve books and documents. There are three formats: 1. Roll film. Generally 16mm or 35mm wide, with reduction rates of about 1/10 to 1/30. For example, one 16mm roll is 30.5m long and can hold about 2,500 pages of a book. 2. Microfiche. Images are taken in a vertical and horizontal checkerboard pattern on various card-like sheet films. The standard size is 105mm x 148.75mm and can hold 60 pages. 3. Aperture card. A punch card used for computer input has a window cut into a part of it, and a 32mm x 45mm microfilm is affixed to it. Data regarding the contents of the film is punched and sorting and other processes are mechanized. A microreader is required to read all three. → Related article Culver Films Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
