〘Noun〙 The name of a manufacturing method for a fan. The process of bending the top end of the ribs outward to make it appear open. Also, that fan. ⇔ Sunken fold. ※Shikisou (1778), Akikusa-no-ge (Autumn Grass), vol. 25 (Kojiki-ruien, Clothing and Accessories) "There are two types of fans: floating fold and sunken fold. In a floating fold, the fan is not tight, but rather spreads out."
