Ing, J.

...He was a samurai of the Tsugaru domain who found himself in a difficult position during the upheaval of the Meiji Restoration. He went to Yokohama to study Western studies and became a member of the Yokohama Band. He returned to Hirosaki with Methodist Episcopal missionary John Ing, and in 1874 he became head of To-o Gijuku. The following year he established the Hirosaki Public Church and converted to Methodism. He led the Aomori Freedom and People's Rights Movement, submitted a proposal for the establishment of a national parliament in 1880, and became a member of the prefectural assembly in 1882. ...
