Emperor Ingyo

According to the Kojiki and Nihon shoki, he was the 19th emperor. He is also called Emperor Oasatsuma Wakugo no Sukune no Sumeramikoto. He is said to be the same as the Wao King Sei who appears in the Song Shu. He was the fourth son of Emperor Nintoku. His mother was Iwanohime. He made his capital in Tootsuasukanomiya in Yamato (near Asuka village, Takaichi county, Nara prefecture). He made Osaka no Onakatsuhime his empress and appointed Osakabe as his position. In the 4th year of the reign of Emperor Ingyo, he held a ceremony to search for the gods at Amakashi no Oka to rectify the confusion of clan names. Later, he married the beautiful young sister of the empress, Princess Sotoori no Iratsume, and built the Fujiwara Palace and established the Fujiwara clan. This made the empress jealous, and it is said that when she gave birth to Emperor Yuryaku, she burned down the birth palace and tried to commit suicide. She died after 42 years on the throne and was buried in Naganohara Imperial Mausoleum in Kawachi.

記紀によれば第19代天皇。雄朝津間稚子宿禰天皇(おあさづまわくごのすくねのすめらみこと)ともいう。『宋書(そうじょ)』にみえる倭王(わおう)の済(せい)にあたるとされている。仁徳(にんとく)天皇第4皇子。母は磐之媛(いわのひめ)。大和(やまと)の遠飛鳥宮(とおつあすかのみや)（奈良県高市(たかいち)郡明日香(あすか)村付近）に都する。忍坂大中姫(おしさかのおおなかつひめ)を皇后とし、刑部(おさかべ)を定める。允恭天皇4年、氏姓の混乱を正すため味橿丘(あまかしのおか)で盟神探湯(くかたち)を行った。のち皇后の妹で容姿絶妙の衣通郎姫(そとおりのいらつめ)を妃とし、藤原宮を建て藤原部を定めた。このため皇后はねたみ、雄略(ゆうりゃく)天皇を産むときに産殿(うぶどの)を焼き、死のうとしたといわれる。在位42年で崩じ、河内(かわち)長野原陵に葬られた。
