…They are also called the Nitta Iwamatsu clan. The founder, Tokikane, was the daughter of Ashikaga Yoshizumi and Nitta Yoshikane, and in 1224 (Jo-o 3) and 1226 (Karoku 2), he was appointed as the land steward of the Iwamatsu district of Nitta Manor in Kozuke Province, which had been passed down to him by his mother, Nitta Nun. Since then, he became a powerful branch family of the Nitta clan, and in 1268 (Bun'ei 5), he inherited the Tokugawa district and other areas from Tokugawa Yoriari, a branch family of the Serada clan, and expanded his influence. He was instrumental in Nitta Yoshisada's attack on Kamakura, and was given the position of Hida Shugo. However, during the Nanboku-cho civil war, he joined the Ashikaga clan and gained control of Nitta Manor with the downfall of the Nitta clan. …
