...It is widely distributed from the Kanto region of Honshu to the west, and from Shikoku, Kyushu, and the Ryukyu Islands to tropical regions. There are about 100 known species of Lippia , most of which are shrubs distributed in tropical and subtropical regions, and the majority are found in the New World. Some species, such as Boshuuboku ( L. citriodora ), have a lemon-like fragrance and are used as a substitute for tea and to flavor foods, and some are cultivated for decorative purposes.
