American magician. His real name was E. Weiss. He invented the so-called escape magic, in which a person immediately escapes even after being handcuffed and placed in a box, which is then locked and sunk to the bottom of a body of water, and even after being hung upside down from a tall tower wearing a prison suit. He was said to be the greatest magician of the 20th century. Unlike his friend C. Doyle, he had doubts about psychic phenomena and argued that they were all just tricks.
