Inlet - Irie

Japanese: 入江 - いりえ

〘 noun 〙① An area that extends into land such as the sea, a lake, or a pond. ※Kojiki (712), Vol. 2, Folk Song: "The lotus flowers of Irie in the Kusakae River are a sight to be envied by those in their prime . " ② Figuratively, the corner or edge of something. ※Ukiyo-zoshi, Koshoku Ubumo (around 1695), Vol. 3: "The tea ceremony is held in the corner's Irie inlet . Tea can be seen as it has been for ages, and here the kettle is boiling."

Irie [Inlet]

A family name. A court noble in the early modern period. A branch of the Northern Fujiwara clan's Mikohidari line, a branch of the Fujitani family. The family began when Fujitani Tamejyo's second son, Sosho, established it during the Jokyo period ( 1684-1688 ). Waka poetry was the family's specialty. The family's rank was the Urin family.
