…The Nihon Shoki, in the June entry for the 14th year of the reign of Emperor Tenmu, states that “Owa-no-mure, Katsuragi-no-mure, Bonkawachi-no-mure, Yamashiro-no-mure, Naniwa-no-mure, Ki-no-sake-hito-no-mure, Wa-kan-no-mure, Kawachi-kan-no-mure, Hata-no-mure, Osumi-no-nao, Sho-no-mure, and eleven other clans were given the surname Kimi-no-mure,” and most of the clans who became Kimi-no-mure were given the surname Muraji. Kimi-no-mure's surname is also written as Imiyoshi. There are various theories about its meaning, but it is believed that “imi” means taboo and “ki” means male. …
