…Many mathematical tablets were already dedicated in the early Edo period. The oldest surviving mathematical tablet is the one donated by Murayama Yoshishige to Hoshimiya Shrine in Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture in 1683 (Tenwa 3), followed by Kitano Tenmangu Shrine in Kyoto (1686 (Jokyo 3), Imanishi Koemon), Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto (1691 (Genroku 4), Hasegawa Rinkan), and Oshio Hachiman Shrine in Takefu City, Fukui Prefecture (1701, Hachiya Yoriya). Some of these tablets contained good problems, and some people began to copy and collect them to make a book. …
