Arab national movement

During World War II, plans for national unification were drawn up, such as the Fertile Crescent plan centered on the Hashemite family of Iraq and the Greater Syria plan centered on the Hashemite family of Trans-Jordan. In the end, under the initiative of King Farouk of Egypt, the Arab League (initially a regional organization of seven countries, Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Trans-Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon) was formed in Cairo in 1945. After World War II, the Ba'ath Party and the Arab nationalist movement Ḥaraka al-Qawmiyin al-'Arab were born, aiming for a mass organization and movement. The latter eventually became left-wing in the 1960s, evolving into the Palestinian Popular Front (PFLP) and the National Front (NLF) in southern Yemen.
