…She corresponds to Latona in Roman mythology. She was the daughter of the Titans Koios and Phoibē, and was loved by Zeus and became pregnant with twin gods. However, all landmasses refused to provide a place for the baby to be born, for fear of the wrath of Zeus' wife Hera. So Leto managed to give birth to the twin gods on a floating island called Ortygia (meaning "village of quails"). Since then, this floating island became the "shining island" Delos, which is rooted in the seabed, and has come to be revered as a sacred place for Apollo and Artemis. …
