〘Noun〙① One of the measurements for the space between pillars. The space between pillars is measured in six shaku (1.8 meters) on the carved ruler's scale, and this is considered to be one ken. It is mainly used in the Kanto, Tohoku, and Tokai regions. → Kyoma. 〘名〙① 柱間(はしらま)寸法の一つ。柱間を曲尺(かねじゃく)の六尺（一・八メートル）に取り、これを一間とするもの。主に関東、東北、東海地方で用いられる。→京間。〔俳諧・毛吹草（1638）〕※碩鼠漫筆（1859頃）一五「屋敷地の歩数の定に、京間田舎間(ヰナカマ)といふ事は、古代よりの制とおもへど、いまだ其所出をしらず」② 寸尺の足りないものをいう。※雑俳・柳多留‐四八（1809）「田舎間の短冊へ書く天の川」
