It is extremely important for metal artifacts, and for artifacts in general, to know the site where they were excavated and the circumstances under which they were excavated. Compared to artifacts that are discovered by chance during construction work, etc., and whose burial circumstances are unknown, artifacts discovered through excavation surveys by researchers can provide much more information.
