…He was adopted by Tsukioka Sessai and became a disciple of Utagawa Kuniyoshi at the age of 12, taking the name Yoshitoshi. He was also known by the pseudonyms Ikkaisai and Gyokuro. In 1866 (Keio 2), he collaborated with fellow student Ochiai Yoshiiku to produce the cruel and bloody painting "Eimei Nijūhachishūku" (Twenty-eight Poems in English). …
