Ichijo Masachika

...One of the three kokushi families, a branch of the Ichijo clan, a noble family that was established in Tosa Province during the Sengoku period. It began in 1468 (Onin 2) when Ichijo Kaneyoshi's eldest son, former regent Norifusa, moved to Nakamura, Hata-sho, a family territory, with the support of the local Ohira clan, and continued for five generations from the founder Fusaie through Fusafuyu, Fusamoto, Kanesada, and Tadamasa. At first, the family was busy recovering its territory, but after the collapse of the Hosokawa clan's shugo-ryo system, it mediated disputes between various provinces with its outstanding family status, and during Fusamoto's time, it advanced eastward and included the southern part of Takaoka County in its territory, and allied with the Otomo clan of Bungo, often invading southern Iyo. ...
