Thus, in 1931, six partitas (BWV 825-830) were published as the first part of the “Clavier Exercises”, in 1935 the “Italian Concerto” (BWV 971) and the “French Overture” (BWV 831) as the second part, in 1939 the organ chorales as the third part, and around 1942 the great harpsichord work “Goldberg Variations” (BWV 988) as the fourth part.
