Asphalt Jungle

A classic post-World War II American crime film made in 1950. It also has the alternative title "While the City Sleeps." Director John Huston, who specialized in films that dealt with men's ambitions and failures, depicted the drama of a group of men who come together to plan a safe-cracking scheme to steal a million-dollar jewel in a "hard-boiled" style, and this film marked the beginning of the "heist film" or "group robbery film" that would later become established as a film genre ("The Battle of Men" 1955, "The League of Gentlemen" 1960, "The Righteous" 1970, etc.).
