…One of the Edo Shogunate's local administrative agencies, the Magistrate of a Distant Country. It is also called the Isemachi Magistrate, the Isegundai, or the Ise Yamadamachi Magistrate. Yamada in Ise Province developed as a temple town for the Ise Grand Shrine in the Middle Ages, but Toyotomi Hideyoshi made it a direct territory and appointed Kanbe Sadanaga, who served the shrine, as the Magistrate to govern it. …
