1630‐76 A notorious French poisoner. Born the daughter of a high-ranking Parisian judicial official, after her marriage she met an officer named Sainte-Croix who was knowledgeable about toxicology, and with his help she poisoned many people, including her own father, husband, brother, and children. When her crimes were discovered, she fled to the Netherlands, but was arrested at a monastery in Liège, tortured, and executed in front of a crowd.
