Izumo Folk Craft Paper - Izumo Folk Craft Paper
A regional brand of Shimane prefecture, Chugoku region.
It is produced in Matsue City. The Izumo region has been a land of paper production since ancient times. During the Edo period, Matsudaira Naomasa, the founder of the Matsue domain, invited paper craftsmen from his hometown of Echizen to develop the paper industry. Paper made in the Edo period in Yakumo-cho, Matsue City (formerly Yakumo Village, Yatsuka County) was reproduced and came to be called Izumo Mingei Paper around 1931 (Showa 6), when the late Abe Eishiro, who later became a Living National Treasure, met Yanagi Soetsu. Its greatest feature is the Japanese paper-making process, which makes the most of the characteristics of the raw materials such as paper mulberry, mitsumata, and gampi. A traditional local craft of Shimane Prefecture.
