Wig - wig

Japanese: 鬘 - かつら
Wig - wig
〘Noun〙 (also "kazura") 1. In ancient times, various plants such as green willows, irises, lilies, seaweed, and rice ears were used as hair ornaments. Unlike "uzu" and "kazashi," in which the branches were simply thrust into the hair, kazura was used by tying, wrapping, or entangling it around the hair. Originally, it was based on contagious magic, which attempted to transfer the life force of plants to the body. *Man'yoshu (late 8th century ) 5/817 "Wouldn't the green willows in the garden where plum blossoms bloom be made into kazura ?" 2. Hair added by people with thin or short hair. Soegami. Kamoji. [Ten-volume Wamyosho (around 934)] *Genji (around 1001-14), Yomogi: "My fallen combs were collected and made into a wig, about nine feet long and very pure." ③ A wig made into various hairstyles and worn on the head. It was originally developed for theatrical performances, but is now commonly used to change hairstyles. *Haiku, Zoku Sarumino (1698), Spring: "I stay at a kazura and have a mirror set up (this is fun)." ④ An old name for the plant "kamojigusa (alpine grass)."
