A shrine appears in the December entry for the 22nd year of the Emperor Keitai era (528) in the Nihon Shoki. According to it, in 527, Tsukushi no kuni no miyatsuko Iwai rebelled, but was defeated by the generalissimo Mononobe no Arakahi in November 528. His son, Kazura no Kami, fearing that he would be implicated and executed as a result of his father's crimes, offered the shrine to atone for the death penalty. It is highly likely that the idea of an offering to atone for a crime was embellished from the perspective of the Wa government, and in reality it should be considered that the Wa government, having won the battle against Iwai, established the shrine in the eastern region of Tsukushi no Kimi's domain in order to suppress the remaining forces and strengthen its own rule.
