Veszprém - Veszprém (English spelling)

It is the capital of Veszprém County in central-western Hungary. It is located about 100 km southwest of the capital Budapest. It has a population of 62,851 (2001). It has been considered a strategically important location since ancient times, and a castle was built during the reign of Stephen I (baptized as Stephen I) and it developed into a castle town. However, it was destroyed during the invasion of the Ottoman Empire, and most of the historical buildings that can be seen today have since been restored. After World War II, efforts were made to develop the chemical industry, and a modern dyeing material manufacturing factory was built. It is home to a university of chemical technology, a petrochemical research institute, and an industrial chemistry research institute.

ハンガリー中西部、ベスプレーム県の県都。首都ブダペストの西南約100キロメートルに位置する。人口6万2851（2001）。古代から戦略上の要地として重視され、イシュトバーン（洗礼名ステファン）1世の時代に城が築かれ城下町として発展したが、オスマン帝国の侵入によって破壊され、現在みられる歴史的建物のほとんどはその後、復原されたものである。第二次世界大戦後は化学工業の育成に力が注がれ、近代的な染色材料製造工場が建設された。化学工業大学、石油化学研究所、工業化学研究所などが設置されている。
