Tsuruga [city] - Tsuruga
A city in central Fukui Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1937. The town has a natural harbor at the back of Tsuruga Bay, and the Hokuriku Main Line and Hokuriku Expressway pass through it, and the Obama Line and Maizuru-Wakasa Expressway branch off from it. Tsuruga has developed as a key point on the Hokuriku Kaido, transporting goods between Kaga, Echizen, Noto and Kyoto since ancient times, and as a fishing and seafood processing port. In recent years, chemical, cement and electrical equipment factories have been established in the city, and the city has developed into an industrial city on the coast. In 1969, a nuclear power plant was built at Tateishi Cape at the mouth of the bay. Kehi Shrine and Kehi no Matsubara (a scenic spot) are located here. The area is 251.39 km2 . Population: 67,760 (2010).

福井県中部の市。1937年市制。敦賀湾奥に天然の良港をもつ市街があり,北陸本線,北陸自動車道が通じ小浜線,舞鶴若狭自動車道が分岐する。古来大陸貿易,加賀・越前・能登と京畿との物資輸送,北陸街道の要衝として発展した。敦賀港が1951年重要港湾に指定され,漁業,水産加工のほか,近年は化学,セメント,電気機器の工場も立地,臨海工業都市として発展している。1969年湾口の立石岬に原子力発電所が建設された。気比(けひ)神宮,気比ノ松原(名勝)がある。251.39km2。6万7760人(2010)。
