Year of death: Genbun 3.3.1 (April 19, 1738) Year of birth: 1654 A mid-Edo period agricultural politician and flood control expert. Commonly known as Yasobei. Born in Mizoguchi Village, Naka County, Kii Province (Kainan City, Wakayama Prefecture). Well versed in arithmetic and civil engineering, he was appointed to the Kishu (Wakayama) Domain, where he worked on flood control civil engineering projects for about 30 years, achieving great results. Later, in 1722, Tokugawa Yoshimune, who had been the lord of Kishu Domain and had become the 8th Shogun, appointed him as a shogunate official with a stipend of 200 koku. He subsequently developed new fields and improved rivers in various parts of the Kanto region, Omi, Harima, and other places. Of these, the development of Minuma in Adachi County, Musashi Province, and the construction of the Minumadai Irrigation Canal, which was completed in 1780, are famous. In 1781, he was given a stipend of 500 koku, and in 1782, he was appointed as a Kanjo Ginmiyaku (financial bureaucrat), and in 1787, he also served as Mino Gundai (gundai) governor.
