…During that time, the number of stars for which trigonometric parallax was measured increased from several hundred to several thousand as his method became more widespread. Schlesinger built a long refracting telescope with a 76 cm aperture and a 14 m focal length (aperture ratio 18.6) at the Allegheny Observatory, and during his time at the Yale University Observatory, he built a 66 cm aperture refracting telescope in Johannesburg, South Africa. He measured the positions and proper motions of many stars using photographic plates, and published the Yale Zone Catalogue, which contained 150,000 stars in 15 volumes. He served as president of the International Astronomical Union from 1932 to 1935, and was active internationally. …
