...As of early 1983, the only two X-ray astronomy satellites still in operation were Hakucho and Tenma, both operated by the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science in Japan. In the 1980s, they were joined by Europe's EXOSA, West Germany's ROSAT, and Japan's ASTRO-C (Ginga, launched in February 1987). As of the end of 1997, the only satellite-based X-ray observatories used by X-ray astronomers around the world were Germany's ROSAT (launched in 1990) and Japan's Asuka (launched in 1993). ...
