- An abbreviation for Enterprise Resource Planning. - Refers to a method for managing the entire company in an integrated manner from the perspective of effective utilization of management resources, and for improving management and business efficiency.
This is a concept that aims to carry out efficient management activities by managing all management resources (people, things, money, information) within a company, such as production, sales, inventory, purchasing, logistics, accounting, and human resources/payroll, in an integrated manner across the entire company, and optimally allocating and allocating them, from a management perspective that aims to make effective use of all management resources (people, things, money, information) within the company.
-It is said to have evolved from MRP (Material Requirement Planning), a method of production and inventory management.

・企業全体を経営資源の有効活用の観点から統合的に管理し、経営の効率化、業務の効率化を図るための手法のことを指す。
生産や販売、在庫、購買、物流、会計、人事/給与などの企業内のあらゆる、経営資源(人、物、金、情報)を有効活用しようという経営者的な観点から、企業全体で統合的に管理し、最適に配置・配分することで効率的な経営活動を行うという考え方である。
・生産・在庫管理における手法の1つであるMRP(Material Requirement Planning)から発展したものと言われる。
・1990年に入り、市場の拡大、競争スピードの激化等のグローバルなマーケット環境一般化したことにより企業に求められる要件もグローバル対応、国際競争力の高いサービス・商品の提供等高度化が進んだ。それに呼応する形で経営者に対して最も効果的な経営資源の活用を実現する「迅速且つ適切な意思決定」が求められるようになった。そのリアルタイムなリソースの管理の手法としてERPが注目され浸透していった。
・また、ERPの考え方が広がるにつれて、それらを適切に管理するツールとしてERPパッケージというアプリケーションが発展した。現在はERPという言葉そのものがERPパッケージ(アプリケーションソフト)を指すように変化してきている。
