…A large trading port and coastal industrial city on the mouth of the Scheldt River in northern Belgium, and the capital of the province of the same name. Antwerp is called Antwerpen in English, Antwerp in Flemish (Dutch), and Anvers or Anvers in French. The population of the metropolitan area, including 12 neighboring cities, is 626,000 (197,000 in the city alone).
