Propensity to save

It refers to the ratio of savings to income. If savings are represented as S and income as Y , then S / Y is the average propensity to save. The marginal propensity to save is a concept that plays an important role in the multiplier process of Keynesian theory, and if the increases in savings and income are represented as Δ S and Δ Y , respectively, then the marginal propensity to save can be expressed as Δ S / Δ Y. It is generally believed that the marginal propensity to save increases with increases in income.

The relationship between propensity to consume = 1 - propensity to save is identical.

貯蓄の所得に対する割合をいう。貯蓄をS、所得をYと表せば、S/Yが平均貯蓄性向である。ケインズ理論の乗数過程で重要な役割をもつ概念に限界貯蓄性向があるが、貯蓄、所得の増加分をそれぞれΔS、ΔYと表せば、限界貯蓄性向はΔS/ΔYと表される。一般には限界貯蓄性向は所得の増加とともに逓増(ていぞう)すると考えられている。

　　消費性向＝1－貯蓄性向
の関係が恒等的に成立している。
