An evergreen tree of the Anacardiaceae family, 12-15m tall. Native to tropical America, it is also cultivated in tropical Asia. The receptacle is enlarged, fleshy, and orange-yellow, and is called the cashew apple and is edible. The seeds at the tip of the receptacle are shaped like a magatama and roasted to be used as a snack with alcohol or as an ingredient in sweets. ウルシ科の高さ12〜15mの常緑高木。熱帯アメリカ原産,熱帯アジアなどでも栽培される。花托は膨大し肉質,黄だいだい色でカシューアップルと呼ばれ食用にする。花托の先端につく種子は勾玉(まがたま)形でローストして酒のつまみ,菓子材料とする。種子からとれる油はカシュー樹脂塗料の原料となる。
