An official in the late 7th century. Older brother of Fukei. Father of Michitari. Also written as Motada. During the Jinshin War (672), he and his younger brother Fukei claimed illness and retreated to their home in Wa (Yamato), joining Prince Oama (later Emperor Tenmu) on his journey to the eastern provinces. Upon his death, Tenmu was greatly surprised, and in recognition of his achievements and those of the Otomo clan, he bestowed upon him the rank of Daishii, and gave him a particularly encouraging funeral. For his achievements in the Jinshin War, he was awarded the stipend of 100 households, which was later recognized as a reward for his achievements during the first year of the Taiho era (701).
