Brookite

A titanium dioxide mineral. It is in a tetramorphic relationship with rutile, anatase, and akaogiite, but the stability relationship has not been clarified. It occurs in granitic pegmatites, aplites, and quartz veins in metamorphic rocks, and is often idiomorphic, with oblique plates or columns. It can be distinguished from appearance by its shape, color, and occurrence. Its English name comes from the British mineralogist Henry James Brooke (1771-1857).

二酸化チタンの鉱物の一つ。ルチル（金紅石）、鋭錐石(えいすいせき)および赤荻石akaogiiteとは同質四像関係にあるが、安定関係は明らかにされていない。花崗(かこう)岩質ペグマタイト、アプライト、変成岩中の石英脈などの中に産し、多くは斜方板状あるいは柱状の自形をなす。外見上は、形態・色・産状などから識別される。英名はイギリスの鉱物学者ブルックHenry James Brooke（1771―1857）にちなむ。
