...The area between the Kojima Peninsula, which used to be an island, and the mainland was dotted with many islands and was called Kibi no Anaumi (hole sea) and was the main route for shipping along the Seto Inland Sea. In the early modern period, Kojima was connected to the mainland by the sedimentation of the Takahashi River, Sasagase River, Asahi River, and Yoshii River, and the west side became Achigata, and the east side became Kojima Bay. Reclamation of the bay was promoted from the north shore, and large-scale reclamation projects include Okishinden in the 17th century, Kojoshinden in the 19th century, Fujita reclamation (Fujita Farm) by the Fujita Group in the Meiji period, and Rokuku and Nanaku after World War II. ...
