A region where mineral deposits of the same origin are concentrated. Since mineral deposits are formed by igneous action, sedimentation, etc., they correspond to areas where igneous action or sedimentation with certain characteristics occurred at a certain time. The extent of the region varies depending on the action, but it can range from large ones that span between continents to ones on the scale of the Japanese archipelago, and smaller ones are called mineral-producing regions or mineral-producing areas. An example of a large-scale metallogenic province is a continental shield that contains banded iron ore formations. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
