A faith that is believed to be effective mainly for gynecological diseases, centered around Kada Awashima Shrine (Awashima Myojin) in Kada-machi, Wakayama City. This god is said to be the wife god of Sumiyoshi, and there was a custom of women making dolls and offering them to the goddess. At Awashima Shrine in Kada, an event called "Hina Nagashi" is held on March 3rd, in which donated dolls are released into the sea. In rural areas of the Kanto region, wives also hold Awashima-ko and Mikazuki-ko societies on March 3rd. During the Genroku period (1688-1704), a type of beggar known as Awashima-gannin traveled around the country chanting the good fortune of Awashima-sama, and she came to be widely worshipped by the general public, especially women in the entertainment industry, as a god with miraculous powers for gynecological diseases.
