Cassandre

Japanese: Cassandre
Cassandre

...In the field of furniture, Jacques-Émile Ruhlman (1879-1933), Louis Süe, André Mare, Francis Jourdain, and André Groult, in architecture, Robert Mallet-Stevens (1886-1945), Le Corbusier, and Ozenfant, and in glass, Maurice Marinot, Lalique, and François-Émile Décorchemont, all created new designs that combined the two extremes of functionality and decoration. In the 1930s, design became more functionalist and tended toward streamlined shapes, as is well represented in the train and ship posters of Cassandre (real name Adolphe Jean-Marie Mouron, 1901-68). Art Deco and its era-oriented style were forgotten with the rise of the Nazis and World War II, but since the 1970s it has been rediscovered as the beginning of modern urban culture, and its relationship with the Bauhaus and Russian Constructivism of the same period remains to be seen.

From the poster:

...Cappiello and L. Hohlwein (Germany) were in this transitional period. The representative of Art Deco posters is Cassandre (real name Adolphe Jean-Marie Mouron, 1901-68). As can be seen in his masterpiece "North Star", his distinctive features are a simple linear composition, a color tone with one side blurred, and a bold way of visualizing the subject.
