Safe deposit box - Kashikinko

A system in which financial institutions lend safe deposit boxes in their vaults as a service to customers. Safe deposit boxes are recognized as a type of safe custody, which is one of the incidental business. Customers can store valuables such as securities and precious metals in the safe deposit box by paying a set fee. The safe deposit box can be opened and closed with a special key that is lent in advance. The financial institution's responsibility is limited to the protection of the safe deposit box and does not extend to the contents inside.

金融機関が顧客へのサービスとして金庫室内の保護箱を貸与する制度。金融機関の業務は法律によってその範囲が定められており、預金、貸付などの固有業務と、それに付随する業務とに大別されるが、貸金庫は付随業務の一つである保護預りの一種として認められているものである。顧客は所定の手数料を払って、その保護箱の中に有価証券、貴金属などの貴重品を保管することができる。保護箱の開閉はあらかじめ貸与された専用鍵(かぎ)で行われる。金融機関の責任は保護箱の保全にとどまり、その中身には及ばないことになっている。
