Akashina Incident

...The facts of the case and the trial were made clear, including the involvement of the Meiji government, including the elder statesman Yamagata Aritomo, the "trial like a galloping horse" (as stated by Imamura Rikisaburo, defense lawyer in the High Treason Case), the interrogation records obtained under torture, and the fabrication of the case. It was also carefully argued that while the conspiracy of Miyashita, Kanno, Niimura, and Furukawa in the so-called "Akashina Case" could be barely assumed, Kotoku's involvement was doubtful, but that 19 people, excluding the seven people including the two who were charged with violating the Explosives Control Act, were at least falsely accused. It was made clear that a large-scale nationwide case was fabricated, using the "Akashina Case" as the sole pretext. ...
