Archimedes - Archimedes (English spelling)
A deep-sea research vessel (bathyscaphe) belonging to the French Navy, called the Arcimède in French. It was built in 1961 as an ultra-deep-sea submersible with a depth of 10,000 meters, and its construction was assisted by Belgium. It has a diving capacity of 36,000 feet (about 10,973 m), weighs 61 tons, and has a crew of three. It always operates in tandem with its mother ship, the Marcel Rubien. Not only does it have outstanding diving capabilities, it also has excellent maneuverability while diving, and its observation equipment is more comprehensive than previous vessels. In 1962, it visited Japan, diving into the Kuril Trench and the Japan Trench to investigate the marine life, chemistry, physics, and geology of the deep sea.
