…He attacked the Thuringians in 491, the Alamanni in 495-496 and probably in 505-506, and killed the Liberians king of Cologne, Sigebert, and his son around 509, establishing his hegemony on the left bank of the Rhine. During this time, Clovis converted from Arianism to Catholicism, and after defeating the Visigothic king Aralic II at Vouillé in 507 and annexing Aquitaine, he moved the capital to Paris and convened a council at Orléans in 511. There are many different theories about Clovis's achievements, especially the time of his conversion, due to the difficulty of interpreting the descriptions in the basic historical source, Gregory of Tours' History of the Franks. …

...Later they migrated southwest, and around 230 they settled in the steppes on the northwestern shore of the Black Sea, but at this time they split into two groups, east and west. They eventually entered Italy from the Balkans, and during the reign of Alaric I (reigned 395-410) they plundered Rome and other cities. In 412, during the reign of King Ataulf (reigned 410-415), they entered Gaul and settled in the region of Aquitaine under a unique system of military garrisons (hospitalitas).
