…In Akkadian documents from the second half of the 3rd millennium BCE, the name Amorites appears as a general term for the uncivilized semi-nomadic people of the Syrian Desert, which stretches west of Mesopotamia. In other words, the original meaning of the Amorites was "Western people." Around 2000 BCE, the Amorites invaded and settled in the fertile land of Mesopotamia.
